It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the team that has won seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the record chasers, are the only things left for a side that has won it all.

The fact it required as late as Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, in truth, a testament to the pitchers that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their batsmen to hold a record if never given the opportunity.

The question of whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement remains open for discussion.

Many contend the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the test that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was much more difficult to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings came after six matches in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"The possibility to take the field and face the challenge with her and just have a bit of fun that way, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her swiftest at a World Cup - and her century in 84 deliveries while she attacked short-pitched balls, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

Once she was out the team needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - a manageable total now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the belief to do that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, if we do, we are confident we can succeed."

Those words will be the final thing rival teams at this tournament want to hear.

Over the past five days a sense they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this victory coming after success over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

During that phase they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the initial instance at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated with the discomfort.

But while she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have delayed plans to retire, this tournament is likely to be her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win a global event as captain.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
