It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
